Characteristics of organisms
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What four properties do all living organisms have. | Growth, organization, response and reproduction. |
| What is organization? | When a cell or a group of cells have a specific role to fill out. |
| What is growth? | The process of when an organism increases in size over time. |
| What is response? | When an organism reacts to its surrondings or enviorment. |
| What is reproduction? | When an ogranism makes offspring simmilar to its self. |
| Example of organization. | The boy’s bone cells keep his bones healthy. |
| Example of Growth. | The plant grew two inches overnight. |
| Example of response. | The frightened cat ran up the tree to escape the dog. |
| Example of reproduction. | The mushroom reproduces using spores. |
| Why do organisms need energy? | Because without energy, the organism could not move, grow or essentially survive. |
| Are viruses alive? | Simply put, no they are not. |
| Explain why viruses are not alive. | Viruses do not carry all four of the living characteristics. |
| What is sexual reproduction? | When two sets of DNA from the parent organisms bond to create an offspring possesing traits from each parent. |
| What is asexual reproduction? | When an an offspring is created from one parent, it is an exact copy of its one parent. (Is usually a single celled organism or plant) |
| Which type of reproduction leads to greater diversity? | Sexual reproduction would lead to greater diversity |
| Why does sexual reproduction lead to greater diversity? | Sexual reproduction leads to greater diversity because two different sets of DNA are used to create an offspring, making the offspring its own organism. |
