Other Forms of Inheritance

TermDefinition
Polygenic Trait Trait controlled by two or more genes.
Co-dominance When both alleles are completely expressed in the phenotype.
Incomplete Dominance When one allele is not completely dominant over the other.
Sex-linked Gene Gene located on a sex chromosome.
Pleiotropy The control of more than one phenotypic characteristic by a single gene.
Linked Genes Genes located near each other on the same chromosome that tend to be inherited together.
Barr body A dense body formed by the deactivation of the X-chromosome found in the nuclei of female mammalian cells.
X-inactivation When in female cells the extra X-chromosome switched off in the cells.
