plant reproduction

flower parts

the female part of the flower that looks like a large vase Pistil
the male part of the flower that has a filament and an ANTHER Stamen
what is produced in the ANTHER Pollen
what is located inside the pollen sperm
Describe the chromosome arrangement in the sperm or egg of a flower they have half the number of chromosomes found in typical cells of the plant ...they are haploid
What is the large part of the pistil located at the bottom of the structure ovary
What is located within the ovary of the flower ovulues or eggs... after fertilization the eggs will become seeds and the ovary will become the fruit ( picture an apple)
where does pollination occur in a flower On top of the pistil... there is a sticky surface
where does fertilization occur in the flower At the bottom of the ovary where the eggs are located
How does the sperm of a flowering plant get to the egg of a flowering plant the pollen (containing sperm) lands on the pistil and starts to grow a POLLEN TUBE. The sperm travels down the pollen tube and will then unite with the egg within the ovary
What is self pollination when a plant has both male and female reproductive structures and the pollen goes from the male structure to the female structure within the same plant
what is another way that some people describe self pollination..they could also say _____ Self fertilization ( self pollination is probably a better term)
what is cross pollination When the pollen goes from the male structure to the female structure in ANOTHER plant... it must be the same species ( pea to pea , rose to rose etc... not pea to rose)
What is pollination when the pollen containing the sperm goes from the male's stamen to the female's pistil by insect, bird, bat, wind, or other means... two types are self and cross pollination
What is fertilization when the sperm unites with an egg to make a new organism ( first cell is a zygote).. part of sexual reproduction
