| aerobic | metabolic process that requires oxygen. |
| anaerobic | metabolic process that doesn't require oxygen. |
| glycolysis | an enzyme-assisted anaerobic process that breaks down one six-carbon molecule of glucose to two three-carbon pyruvate ions. |
| NADH | an electron carrier that eventually donates the electrons to other organic compounds in cellular respiration. |
| krebs cycle | Acetyl-CoA enters a series of enzyme-assisted reactions. |
| FADH2 | another type of electron carrier formed when electrons are transferred to an electron acceptor called FAD. |
| fermentation | the recycling of NAD+ using an organic hydrogen acceptor. |
