USI DMS Renal Doppler

Where does the left renal vein lie? Posterior to SMA and anterior to the aorta.
What arteries run parallel to the cortex? Arcuate arteries
What are the indications for a renal Doppler? Uncontrolled hypertension, specifically in younger patients, decreasing renal function, and abdominal bruit.
What is the difference between the two types of renal Doppler exams? The direct method examines the entire renal artery bilaterally and the indirect method assesses only the segmental renal arteries.
What is the renal aortic ratio for greater than 60% stenosis? greater than or equal to 3.5
When doing an indirect renal Doppler, how should our sample volume be set up? Large sample volume of 4-6mm
What is the acceleration time also known as? Rise time
What should be present in a normal exam when measuring the acceleration time? The presence of the early systolic peak.
What is the most common cause of renal artery disease? Atherosclerosis
What is the second most common curable cause of renovascular disease? Medial fibromuscular dysplasia
