| Autosome | Any chromosome that is not a sex chromosomes. |
| Carrier | An individual heterozygous for a specific trait. |
| Codominant Allele | Pattern where phenotypes of both homozygous parents are produced in heterozygous offspring so that both alleles are equally expressed |
| Incomplete Dominance | Neither allele is dominant, produces intermediate phenotype, blending of colors. |
| Karyotype | A chart of chromosomes pairs arranged according to length and location. In humans there are 23 pairs. |
| Multiple Allele | Presence of more than two alleles for a genetic trait. |
| Pedigree | Graphic representation of genetic inheritance used by geneticists to map genetic traits. |
| Sex Chromosomes | A chromosome involved with determining the sex of an organism, typically one of two kinds: XX or XY |
| Human Genome Project | An international project to study the entire genetic material of a human being. |
| Test Cross | Mating of individual of unknown genotypes with an individual of known genotype. Helps determine unknown genotype. |
| Nondisjunction | Failure of homologous chromosomes to separate properly durning meiosis; results in gametes with too many or too few chromosomes. |
| Mutation | A change or random error in a DNA sequence. |
| Gene Therapy | The transplantation of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. |
| Gel Electrophoresis | Technique used for the separation of deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid, or protein molecules using an electric devise. |
| Clone | Genetically identical copies of an organism or gene |
| DNA Fingerprinting | The analysis o f DNA from samples of body tissues or fluids in order to identify individuals |
