Punnett Squares Vocab

codominant both alleles of a gene contribute to the phenotype (physical appearance) of the organism
trait specific characteristic that varies from one individual to another
gene the sequence of DNA that codes for a protein and thus determines a trait
dominant masks the other trait; the trait that shows if it is present
allele the different possibilities for a given trait
recessive a trait that shows up when the dominant allele is not present
homozygous an organism that has two identical alleles for a particular trait (TT or tt)
punnett square a diagram showing the gene combinations that might result from a genetic cross
heterozygous an organism that has two different alleles for the same trait (Tt)
probability the chance that a given event will occur
incomplete dominance one allele is not completely dominant over another
