Land Biomes
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| biome | A region of Earth where the climate determines the types of plants that live there |
| coniferous tree | Trees that have needlelike leaves that produce food all year long-have cones |
| deciduous trees | Trees that drop their leaves. |
| tundra | Low average temperatures and very little precipitation. The ground contains permafrost. |
| climate | The weather conditions in an area over a long period of time. |
| permafrost | A thick layer of permanently frozen soil beneath the surface. |
| taiga | Has low average temperatures, but more precipitation than the tundra. |
| desert | hot during the day, cold at night, and very dry |
| grassland | has lots of grasses but very few trees |
| rain forest | a biome that gets a substantial amount of rain |
| adaptations | a change in structure, function, or behavior by which a species or individua improves its chance of survival |
