elements and principles of design
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What are the elements of design? | line,shape/form,texture, and color |
What are the principles of design? | balance, rhythm, proportion/scale.emphasis, unity |
What is the principle repetition? | design is copied or repeated |
How does texture affect color? | smooth textures reflect light and look brighter, shinier and more intense. Rough textures absorb more light and look darker and duller. |
What do curved lines suggest? | coziness, comfort, naturalness, delicateness |
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? | Horizontal balance is when the left and right parts are balanced. Vertcal balance is when the top and bottom parts are equal. Radial balance is when the elements radiate out from a design. Are equal |
What do diagonal lines suggest? | They suggest action, movement and excitement. |
What is space? | Space is The area provided for a particular purpose, it can have 2 dimensions or have 3 dimensions. |
What are the four types of rhythm? | The four types of rhythm are: Gradation, Radiation, Repetition and Continuous Line. |
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? | Asymmetrical balance is when parts of the design are not identical but are equal in visual weight. An example would be if you had a large picture and next to it you had 2 smaller pictures that appeared to be even with the larger one. |
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? | Horizontal lines lead the eye from left to right while vertical lines lead the eye up and down. |
What is the golden mean? | The golden mean is that all things are set up in a 3 to 5 ratio. |
What is the difference between shape and form? | Shape is a flat or silhouette image and form is the outline edges of a three dimensional object. |
What are the five types of balance? | The 5 types of balance are: Symmetrical Balance, Asymmetrical Balance, Horizontal Balance, Vertical Balance, and Radial Balance. |
What does unity or harmony mean? | It means that all the elements and principles of design work together. |
What are the two things texture involves? | It involves how the surface feels to the touch and how it appears to feel. |
What are the four types of line? | The four types of lines are vertical, horizontal, diagonal and curved. |
What is proportion? | Proportion is how the design is visually divided. |
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? | Diagonal lines suggest excitement or interest. |
What is symmetrical balance? Example? | Symmetrical balance is when both parts are identical. An example would be plants, insects or humans. |
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? | Emphasis is one object or item that stands out. Another name is focal point. |
What happens when you use a continuous line? | When you use a continuous line it creates a line for your eye to follow. |
What is another name for symmetrical balance? | Another name for symmetrical balance is identical balance. |
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? | Another name for asymmetrical balance is nonidentical balance. |
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? | Gradation is when a design increase or decreases in size, radiation is lines or designs move out from a center point. |
