What are the elements of design? Line, Form, Shape + Form, texture, color, space
What are the principles of design? Balance, Rhythm, Proportion/Scale, Emphasis, Unity
What is the principle repetition? Design is copied or repeated
How does texture affect color? Smoother feels more intense, Rough makes it duller
What do curved lines suggest? Coziness, comfort, naturalness, delicateness
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? Vertical - Top and Bottom are equal Horizontal - Left and Right are equal Radial Balance - Elements radiate out from design
What do diagonal lines suggest? movement, activity, excitement
What is space? How large a room is
What are the four types of rhythm? Gradation, Radiation Line, Repetition, Continuous Line,
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? Parts of the design are not identical but are equal in visual weight. Desk with laptop and a lamp with books.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? Vertical brings strength with allusion of height, while horizontal brings relaxation and allusion of width.
What is the golden mean? A 3:5 ration in height and width.
What is the difference between shape and form? Shape is 2d, Form is 3d
What are the five types of balance? Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Vertical, Horizontal, Radial.
What does unity or harmony mean? All elements and principals come together to form a harmony.
What are the two things texture involves? How a surface feels to touch, or how it would feel to touch it.
What are the four types of line? Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal, Curved
What is proportion? Each part is the right size to belong to the whole
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? Asymmetrical
What is symmetrical balance? Example? Both parts of the design are identical. Butterfly
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? One object that stands out. Focal point
What happens when you use a continuous line? Creates a continuous line for the eye to follow
What is another name for symmetrical balance? Identical
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? Visual weight
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation - Increase or Decrease in size. Radiation - Line or designs move out from center point
