What is color? color is an element of design
How is color perceived? color occurs when light in different wavelengths strike our eyes
What are the three forms of light? incandescent light, fluorescent light, and natural light
What is hue? hue refers to the color itself
What three components is the color wheel made up of? primary colors, secondary colors, and tertiary colors make up the color wheel
What are primary colors? the three basic colors that are used to create al of the other colors, you can't achieve these colors by mixing any other colors together
What are the three primary colors? red, yellow, and blue
What are secondary colors? colors that are achieved from mixing equal parts of 2 primary colors
What are the three secondary colors? violet, green, and orange
What are tertiary colors? colors that are achieved from mixing equal parts of a primary and secondary color
What are examples of tertiary colors? red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green. yellow-orange, red-orange
What are colors used in the color wheel called? saturated colors, there is no white or black in them
What is a tint? a saturated color that is mixed with pure black
What is a shade? a saturated color that is mixed with pure white
What are the warm colors? red, orange, yellow
What are the cool colors? blue, green, and violet
What are the neutral colors? black, gray, white, tan, brown
What are the color harmonies? monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, split complementary, neutral, accented neutral, double complementary
What is the monochromatic color harmony? tints and shades of only one color
What is the analogous color harmony? three or more colors that are next to each other on the color wheel
What is the complementary color harmony? two colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel
What is the triadic color harmony? three colors that are located within equal distance of each other
What is a split complementary color harmony? any color and then two colors located next to that color's complement
What is a double complementary color harmony? 2 sets of complements
What is a neutral color harmony? any combination of neutral colors
What is an accented neutral color harmony? neutral colors with one color as an accent
What is the value of a color? the lightness or darkness of a color
What is the intensity of a color? the brightness or dullness of a color
