Tissue Levels of Organisation

TissueDescriptionMajor Function
Connective Cells in matrix of fibres and ground substance. Protects and supports body and its organs. Binds organs together and stores energy as fat. Provides major transport system within the body
Muscle Contractile cells (muscle fibres) Generates physical force required to make body structures move.
Nervous Nerve cells and supporting neuroglia Detects change inside and outside the body and responds by generating nerve impulses.
Epithelial Covers body surface, lines hollow organs, cavities and ducts. Forms glands Protection; filtration; secretion; absorption; excretion.
