Respiratory

Respiration The exchange of gases between living cells and their environment; includes breathing and cellular respiration
Respiratory System a collection of organs whose primary function is to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide
Cancer a condition in which certain body cells begin dividing at an uncontrolled rate
Pharynx the upper portion of the throat
Larynx the area of the throat that contains the vocal cords
Trachea the air passageway from the larynx to the lungs
Bronchi the two tubes that connect the lungs with the trachea
Alveoli tiny sacs that form the bronchiole branches of the lungs
Emphysema irreversible disease of the lungs characterized by abnormal enlargement of air spaces in the lungs accompanied by destruction of the tissue lining the walls of the air spaces
Bronchitis inflammation of the membrane lining of the bronchial tubes, caused by respiratory infection
Asthma allergic disorder of respiration, characterized by bronchospasm, wheezing, and difficulty in expiration, often accompanied by coughing and a feeling of constriction in the chest
