TermDefinition
Evolution change over time in the genectic composition of a population, also refers to the gradual appearance of all biological diversity
Artificial selection modifying a variety of domesticated plants and animals over many generations by selecting individuals with the desired traits as breeding stock.
Natural selection A population can change over generations if individuals with certain heritable traits leave more offspring than others.
adaptations characteristics of organisms that enhance their survival and reproduction in specific environments
homologous structures anatomical resemblances that represent variations on a structural theme present in common ancestor
vestigial structures No importance to organism, but had important functions in ancestors. Some are homologous structures.
convergent evoltion the evolution of similar features in independent evolutionary linages
