| Term | Definition |

| retina | Thin film at the back of the eye with light-sensitive cells (rods and cones). |
| lens | clear disc inside the eye that focuses light onto the retina |
| pupil | a hole in the iris that allows light to shine into the eye |
| iris | colored muscle of the eye that changes the size of the pupil |
| sclera | tough, fibrous, white covering surrounding the eye |
| cornea | a clear dome that covers the front of the eye |
| suspensory ligaments | tiny strands that hold the lens in place and change its shape |
| optic nerve | a bundle of nerves that allows the eye and brain to communicate |
| rod | retina cells that help us see black, white and grays in dim light |
| cone | retina cell that allows us to see color |
