Food Webs Study Guide

QuestionAnswer
food web A model of how energy and matter flow through an ecosystem. Arrows show the direction that energy and matter are flowing through the web.
Trophic Level The placement (feeding level) of organisms in food webs and energy pyramids.
energy pyramid A model that shows the amount of energy available to each successive trophic level.
producer plant
herbivore plant eating animal
carnivore meat eating animal
omnivore eats both meat and plants
Second-order and higher consumers things at the top of a food web
Scavenger animals that scavege for foods
decomposer feeds off of dead plants/animals
first order consumers in the middle of food webs
