What is the epidermis it is a single layer of tissue that is an outer covering for non-woody plants
What is the periderm? a multilayer tissue that is an outercovering for woody plants. It replaces the epidermis in the form of cork
What are the characteristics of periderm? dies at maturity multi layer part of secondary growth
What is the function of guard cells Open and closes the stoma by changing their shape to control gas exchange in the leaf which is important to transpiration
What are the characteristics of guard cells? pair of cells surounding a stoma
What is the function of trichomes? keeps leaf surface cool and reduces evapouration. May secrete sticky stuff or poison to prevent herbivores from eating it
What are the characteristics of trichomes? tiny growths on epidermis surface found on leaves and stems wooly or fuzzy
What are the functions and characteristics of root hairs? Tiny extensions of epidermal cells on roots increase SA to absorb more nutrients
