SLS Bio11 Taxonomy CP

Binomial nomenclature Two-name used to name organisms. ex. Homo sapiens
Biochemical relationship The study of chemical substances and the processes occurring in living organisms.
Class One of the categories, used by taxonomists to group species.
Embryological relationship A part of biology that deals with formation, early growth and development of living organisms.
Eukaryotic cell Have internal membranes and a definable nucleus and other organelles.
Evolutionary relationship How two things are related with respect to their evolutionary descent.
Family A group of species ex. the dog family of cat family.
Genus A meaning from taxonomists to group a species, contains the species that are most likely related through evolution.
Homologous structure A structure that is related in two or more species.
Kingdom One of the categories, used by taxonomists to group species.
Order One of the categories, used by taxonomists to group species.
Phylum One of the categories, used by taxonomists to group species.
Prokaryotic cell The cell type that is in Bacteria and Archea that does not have a membrane-bounded nucleus and organelles.
Species A group of similar organisms that are able to interbreed and produce fertile offspring.
Sub-phylum A category of related organisms ranking below a phylum.
Taxonomy/taxon Part of biology to due with identifying, describing and naming organisms.
