multicelluar made of more than one cell
photosynthesis process that plants use to make glucose(sugar) from sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide
What do plants give us? oxygen, food, medicine, dyes, nitrogen
chloroplast part of the plant cell that traps the sunlight and converts it into usable energy
stomata found on the underside of the leaf, allows for gas exchange
guard cells cells that surround the stomata, regulate the opening and closing of the stomata.
petiole 'stem' of the leaf that connects the blade of the leaf to the stem of the plant
blade largest portion of the leaf that contains veins and captures sunlight for photosynthesis
flower reproductive organ for angiosperms(flower producing plants), fruits form if flower is fertilized.
fruit holds the seeds, develops from the flower
veins carries food and water through the blade of the leaf
cuticle waxy covering over the plant that prevents water loss
xylem dead cells that carry water and minerals
phloem living cells that carry glucose
3 parts of the leaf blade, petiole, veins
root absorbs nutrients, location of nitrogen fixation, anchors/supports plant
gymnosperm plant the reproduces using a cone (spruce, evergreens, pine trees, etc.)
angiosperm plant that uses a flower for reproduction (dogwood, daisy, apple tree, etc.)
vascualar plant plant that has xylem and phloem
non-vascular plant plant that does not have xylem and phloem (like moss)
