Natural Selection

natural selection the process by which individuals that are better adapted to their environment survive and reproduce more successfully than less well adapted individuals
adaptation an anatomical, physiological, or behavioral change that improves a population's ability to survive in it's environment
biodiversity the variety of organisms living in a given area or environment
speciation the formation of new species as a result of evolution
predator an interaction where one organism, kills and feeds on the other organism, the prey
competition two organisms attempt to obtain the same resource
population a group of organisms of the same species that live in a specific geographical area
habitat the place where an organism usually lives
offspring all of the children from one set of parents
inherited variation changes in DNA passed from parents to their offspring
reproductive advantage any adaptation an organism has that gives them a higher chance to reproduce successfully
reproductive success effectively producing offspring that have the chance to reproduce themselves
