Natural Selection
| Term | Definition |

| natural selection | the process by which individuals that are better adapted to their environment survive and reproduce more successfully than less well adapted individuals |
| adaptation | an anatomical, physiological, or behavioral change that improves a population's ability to survive in it's environment |
| biodiversity | the variety of organisms living in a given area or environment |
| speciation | the formation of new species as a result of evolution |
| predator | an interaction where one organism, kills and feeds on the other organism, the prey |
| competition | two organisms attempt to obtain the same resource |
| population | a group of organisms of the same species that live in a specific geographical area |
| habitat | the place where an organism usually lives |
| offspring | all of the children from one set of parents |
| inherited variation | changes in DNA passed from parents to their offspring |
| reproductive advantage | any adaptation an organism has that gives them a higher chance to reproduce successfully |
| reproductive success | effectively producing offspring that have the chance to reproduce themselves |
