| Chromosome | a cell that carries genetic structure in the form of genes |
| Gene | a unit of heredity that is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring |
| Allele | one of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome. |
| Meiosis | a cell division that results one sell to split into 4 cell with half the chromosomes each time. |
| Gamete | a cell that is from the male or female that is able to unite with another of the opposite sex |
| Fertilization | the act of a male sperm and a female egg to joining together |
| Dominant | One allele that totally masks the other allele |
| Recissive | that one of a pair of alternative alleles whose effect is masked by the activity of the second |
| Genotype | the genetic makeup of an organism or group of organisms with reference to a single trait, set of traits, or an entire complex of traits. |
| Phenotype | the observable constitution of an organism. |
| Homozygous | having identical pairs of genes for any given pair of hereditary characteristics |
| Heterozygous | Two different versions of the same allele |
| Autosome | any chromosome other than a sex chromosome. |
| Sex Chromosome | a chromosome, differing in shape or function from other chromosomes, that determines the sex of an individual. |
