| homozygous | 2 dominant or 2 recessive genes |
| heterozygous | one dominant and one recessive gene |
| hybrid | one dominant and one recessive gene (heterozygous) |
| purebred | 2 dominant or 2 recessive genes (homozygous) |
| genotype | the 2 letter code that represents the genes |
| phenotype | the physical appearance of an organism, what you can see |
| inherited | traits that are passed from parents to offspring |
| acquired | traits that are totally influenced by the environment |
| variation | small differences in a trait |
| dominant | the stronger form of a trait, can mask a recessive trait |
| recessive | a trait that can be hidden or masked by a dominant trait |
