| acquired traits | traits that are totally influenced by the environment |
| variation | different forms of a trait |
| dominant | can mask or hide another variation of the same trait |
| recessive | can be hidden or masked by another trait |
| inherited traits | traits that are passed from parent to offspring |
| phenotype | the outward physical appearance of an organism, what you can see |
| hybrid | has one dominant form of a gene and one recessive form of that gene |
| purebred | when two genes for a trait are both the same |
| genotype | the actual genetic makeup of an organism |
| homozygous | 2 dominant or 2 recessive |
| heterozygous | one dominant and one recessive |
