Digestion

Students are introduced to digestion in the mouth

digestion The breaking down of food to be absorbed by your body.
Mechanical Digestion Physical breakdown of chunks of food into smaller pieces to be used your body.
Chemical Digestion Chemical breakdown of large molecules of food into simpler molecules to be absorbed by the body.
Amylase The enzyme in your saliva that breaks down starches.
Enzyme A special protein that speeds up chemical changes.
Tissue A group of cells working together to perform a job.
Organ A group of tissues working together to perform a job.
Body System A group of organs working together.
Organism A living thing
