Diffusion

TermDefinition
Active Transport The movement of molecules across a membrane from lower to higher concentration, using ATP
ATP Produced in the mitochondria, it is a molecule that is the source of an organism's energy
Cell Membrane Made of lipids and proteins, it regulates what enters and exits a cell
Diffusion Passive movement of materials across a membrane from high to low concentration requiring no energy
Glucose The most common sugar used by organisms for cellular respiration
Indicator A chemical that causes an observable change that shows the presence of another substance
Osmosis The diffusion of water across a membrane
Passive transport The movement of molecules across a membrane from high to low concentration
Semi-permeable Ability of a membrane to allow some but not all substances to pass through
Stain Any chemical that makes parts of the specimen under the microscope more visible
Starch A large carbohydrate composed of simple sugars that is involved in evergy storage in an organism
