Meiosis

fertilization the union of the male and female gamete
zygote formed from a fertilized egg
haploid (n) describes when an organism only has 1 copy of each chromosome
diploid (2n) describes when an organism has 2 copies of each chromosome
crossing over exchange of chromosome segments during meiosis which results in genetic diversity
law of independent assortment genes separate independently of one another in meiosis
law of segregation organisms inherit 2 copies of genes, one from each parent
