Cell Processes
Processes that cells go through to keep organisms alive and healthy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Active Transport | uses energy to move substances |
| Diffusion | substance moves from where there's lots to where there's less |
| Fermentation | happens instead of respiration when not enough oxygen |
| Impermeable | substances can't move through membrane; barrier |
| Mitosis | cell nucleus divides and forms two new identical cells |
| Osmosis | special kind of diffusion through a membrane |
| Passive Transport | doesn't use energy, substance moves freely |
| Permeable | substances move freely through membrane |
| Photosynthesis | plant process using light energy, water, and CO2 to make sugar (glucose) and oxygen |
| Respiration | reverse of photosynthesis; uses sugar and oxygen to release energy, water, and CO2; in plants and animals |
| Selectively Permeable | some substances can move through membrane, others cannot |
