A set of English terms

TermDefinition
alliteration It is a stylistic device in which a number of words, having the same first consonant sound, occur close together in a series.
simile A comparison using "like" or "as"
metaphore Compares 2 things as if they were the same without the words "like" or "as"
allusion A brief and indirect reference to a person, place, thing or idea of historical, cultural, literary or political significance.
assonance Repetition of vowel sounds
stanza A group of lines in a poem
verse writing arranged with a metrical rhythm, typically having a rhyme
sonnet 14 line poem in iambic pentameter
haiku A japanese form of poetry, consisting of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables
elegy a sorrowful poem or speech
