cell wall A tough, rigid outer covering that protects the cell and gives it shape
cell membrane The protective layer around all cells; controls what happens between a cell and its environment
cytoplasm Gel-like material where chemical reactions occur
nucleus Directs all cell activities; contains DNA
nucleolus Assembles ribosomes
chloroplast Where food is made; contains chlorophyll
mitochondria Releases energy by breaking down food into carbon dioxide and water
ribosomes Make proteins
endoplasmic reticulum A series of folded membranes in which materials can be processed and moved around inside the cell
golgi body Sort proteins and other cellular materials
lysosome Break down and recycle materials
vacuole Store cellular materials, such as water, wastes and food
inference A prediction; what you think
model A representation to show the appearance of something
conclusion A result or final outcome
hypothesis An educated guess
observation Fact based on your senses
data Information gathered during an experiment
control Used as a standard of comparison
independent variable Variable that is changed
dependent variable Variable that is measured
