Transcription
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Transcription | The process where RNA is made from a DNA template |
| Nucleus | Where transcription happens |
| DNA- deoxyribonucleic acid | Contains Deoxyribose sugar, phosphate, and a nitrogen base (A,T,C,G) |
| double-stranded | DNA has 2 strands of nucleotides |
| RNA - ribonucleic acid | Contains ribose sugar, phosphate, and a nitrogen base (A, U, C, G) |
| single-stranded | RNA has 1 strand of nucleotides |
| mRNA | messenger RNA - carries instructions for a protein from the nucleus to a ribosome. |
| codon | set of three bases on mRNA that "codes" for an amino acid |
| base pairs | DNA: C-G and A-T RNA: C-G and A-U |
| triplet code | a series of 3 bases in mRNA that codes for an amino acid |
| nucleotide | Monomer of nucleic acids composed of sugar, phosphate, and a nitrogen base |
| ATCG | The nitrogen bases in DNA |
| AUCG | The nitrogen bases in RNA |
| Uracil | Nitrogen base found only in RNA |
