| Term | Definition |

| Environment | Conditions that affect a childs surroundings and those within them. |
| Temporal | Has to do with time and time sequence. Refers to scheduling and how time is spent either at home or school. |
| Staff-to-child ratio | A numerical description of the number of staff to children. varies depending on age of children, type of program, and activity. |
| Anti-bias | Phrase describing the development of curriculum which focuses on people and problems. extends multicultural education and pluralism. |
| Self-help | Act of helping or providing for oneself without dependence on others. Activities that children can do alone without adult supervision. |
| Autonomy | State of being able to exists and operate independently. |
| Full inclusion | Providing the least restrictive environment for children with physical limitations. |
| Least Restrictive Environment | A special education term meaning the child should be educated in the environment that is least different from the regular classroom as long as the child is still able to learn. |
| Accomodations | Alterations in the way tasks are presented that allow children with disabilities to compete the same as other children. |
| Interest Areas | Centers in a classroom or yard that are organized for learning experiences that will interest children |
| Learning Centers | Areas of classroom or yard that are organized to draw attention to specific objects or an activity |
| Routines | Regular procedures that remain constant day to day |
| Transition | Change from one activity to another |
| Interpersonal | Relating to or involving relationships with other people those parts of the environment that have to do with the people in a school setting |
