Immunology

What prevents you from getting sick, when you aren't sleep deprived.

QuestionAnswer
Two kinds of responses from immun. innate- barrier defense (skin, mucous membrane, secretion) or internal defense (phagocycitc cells, inflammation response, and natural killer cells) have rapid response. Other Acquire is sower- humoral response (antibodies) and cell-mediated responses.
Innate Responses are barrier defenses- initial defense is skin and lining of gut,: Also lysozym and Phagocytosis- enzyme in tissue, tears ect. Attck cell walls of gram positive bacterier. Phagocytes patrol mucous lining
How do your cells recognize a foreign cell? (Innate Response) Use TLR (Toll-like Receptor), which recognize framents of molecule that are characterist of phathogens
Inflammatory Resonse (A local Innate) Causes a reddening of the area which is caused by the release of histomines from the Mast cells. This causes dilation of the arterioles, so there is inclearased blood flow through capillaries allowing WBC and antibodies to leave plasma/ enter tissue
Esoniophils cells react to allergy and parasitic infections which are inhaled through the "sino"
neutrophils You have billions to match your billion neutrons. 1rst defense against pathogens, can kill about 20 bacteria before being deactivited.
Monocytes Even though mono means one, it is the second response. Grow up to be macrophages and kill 100 or so bacteria in a life time thus the name "big eaters"
Lypmhocytes Natural killer cells, clean up own cells with virus and cnacer.
Basophils- Release histomines and I can't think up a pneumonic for your, but basophils release the basic defense.
Cytokines regulatory proteins secreted by the cells of the immune system.
Acquired Immunity Get immunity once seen, why inocculate, Three kinds of cells participate (B cells, T cells, and NK cells)
Antigens vs Antibodies Antigens are foreign molecules that elict a response. Antibodies are proteins produced by the host and identify and kill antigen bearing cells.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
