| sodium potassium pump | a protein that transports Sodium positive ions and Potassium positive ions up their concentration gradients |
| endocytosis | the process by which cells ingest external fluid, macromolecules, and large particles |
| vesicle | a small cavity or sac that contains materials in a eukaryotic cell |
| pinocytosis | the transport of solutes or fluids |
| phagocytosis | the movement of large particles or whole cells |
| phagocyte | cells that allow lysosomes to fuse with the vesicles that contain the ingested bacteria and viruses |
| exocytosis | process by which a substance is released from the cell through a vesicle that transports the substance out of the cell |
