Flow Rates

Respiratory Physio Flow Rates

QuestionAnswer
Forced expiratory volume at one second FEV1
Forced vital capacity TLC - RV
FEV1/FVC normally is close to 0.8
Restrictive diseases reduced: both FEV1 and FVC
Obstructive diseases show a reduced: FEV1
If FEV1/FVC is close to 0.6 this indicates obstructive lung disease
Measuring the middle half of an FVS manuever can show flow measurement (Forced expiratory flow rate)
In obstructive disease like asthma, FEF(25 to 75) is: decreased
In severe obstruction both: ____ and ____ are reduced. FEV1 and FEF(25 to 75)
