Elements/Principles
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What are the elements of design? | Color, line, texture, shape/form and space. |
What are the principles of design? | Balance, Rhythm, proportion/scale, emphasis, harmony. |
What is the principle repetition? | Repetition is rhythm, the design is copied of repeated. |
How does texture affect color? | Bumpy, uneven surfaces will appear darker, a smooth even texture will appear lighter. |
What do curved lines suggest? | Soft, delicate, and feminine. |
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? | A horizontal line goes left to right. Vertical goes up and down. Radial goes from a center and radiates out ward. |
What do diagonal lines suggest? | Movement and excitement. |
What is space? | Space is room that flows and has good proportion. |
What are the four types of rhythm? | Gradation, Radiation, Repetition and continuous line. |
What is the golden mean? | |
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? | Asymmetric balance is when the balance on one side is not the same as the other but still balance each other out. On a mantel you can have a picture frame and a flower and on the other side you could have a picture frame and a candle. |
What is the difference between shape and form? | Shape is the consistent shape in a room and form is a certain shape a item has. |
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? | Horizontal lines go left to right and vertical lines go up and down. |
What is the golden mean? | Symmetric, asymmetric, radial, physical, visual. |
What is the difference between shape and form? | Shape is the consistent shape in a room and form is a certain shape a item has. |
What are the five types of balance? | Symmetric, asymmetric, radial, physical, visual. |
What does unity or harmony mean? | All elements and principles of design work together to make harmony. |
What are the two things texture involves? | How something feels or how you think it feels. |
What are the four types of line? | vertical, horizontal, diagonal, curved. |
What is proportion? | When the room has the right size items to belong to the whole. |
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? | asymmetric |
What is symmetrical balance? Example? | Symmetric balance is when both sides are balances out with the same exact items. A couch will be balance with the same pillows on each side. |
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? | An object that stands out and draws your eye. Also known as a focal point. |
What happens when you use a continuous line? | It draws the eye until the end of the room or when the room stops. |
What is another name for symmetrical balance? | A formal balance. |
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? | Informal Balance |
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? | Radiation is when the design comes from the middle and goes outward. Gradation is when one thing changes in a design. |
