Elements/principles

what are the elements of design? Line, shape, direction, size, texture, color, value.
what are the principles of design? balance, gradation, repetition, contrast, harmony.
what is the principle repetition? Repetition is when a design or something is exactly repeated.
how does texture affect color? Highs and lows of a color can create shadowing. The more textured something is the more the color will change
what do curved lines suggest? They suggest flexibility and grace. They bring significance to a room other than straight lines.
what is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? Horizontal balance runs side to side. Vertical balance runs up and down. Radial balance draws your eyes out/around.
what do diagonal lines suggest? They suggest a feeling of falling or moving since they are unstable.
what is space? 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional are that hold all the other elements of design .
what are the 4 types of rhythm? Repetition, gradation, radiation, Transition
what is asymmetrical balance? example? When elements on either side do not reflect one another but flow well together. Ex. plants on either side of a table, but different kind of plants.
what is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? Horizontal lines run side to side, horizontally. Vertical lines run up and down , vertically.
what is the golden mean? the perfect/moderate position, happy medium.
what Is the difference between shape and form? Shape has 2 dimensions- height and width. Form exists in 3 dimensions height, width, and depth.
what are the 5 types of balance? Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Radial, vertical , horizontal balance
what does unity or harmony mean? It means all elements and parts of the visual image flow well together such as rhythm and repetition.
what are the 2 things texture involves? color and size
what are the 4 types of line? Continuous, diagonal, vertical, horizontal
what is proportion? Relative size and scale of elements in a design
which of the 5 types of balance suggests excitement or interest? Radial balance
what is symmetrical balance? example? When each side of something/ an area are exactly the same, a mirror image
what is emphasis? what is another name for it? The point that strongly draws the viewers eyes and is the highlight of the room/area. Focus Point.
what happens when you use a continuous line? It creates a continuous line for your eye to follow.
what is another name for symmetrical balance? Formal balance
what is another name for asymmetrical balance? Informal balance
what is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation is when a design changes in size or color. Radiation is when a design draws ur eyes out and around it like a circle
