Elements/ Priciples

QuestionAnswer
What are the elements of design? Space, Line, Shape, Form, Texture, ad Color
What are the principles of design? Balance, Rhythm, Proportion/Scale, Emphasis,Unity
What is the principle repetition? When a design is copied or repeated
How does texture affect color? Texture affects color because it affects the mount of light reflected and absorbed.(ex. smooth leather appears lighter than a fluffy fabric of the same color)
What do curved lines suggest? Soft, Grace
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? Horizontal Balance is when the left and right parts are equal, Vertical Balance is when the top and bottom pars are equal, and Radial Balance is when the element radiates outward from the center
What do diagonal lines suggest? Action, Movement, and Excitement
What is space? A flat silhouette image with 2 dimension(length ad width)
What are the four types of rhythm? Gradation, Radiation, Repetition, Continuous Line
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? When parts of the design are not identical but are equal in visual. (ex. Table top that has a lamp on one side and a picture frame on the other side)
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? Vertical lines lead the eye up and down, Horizontal lines leads the eye from left to right
What is the golden mean? 3:5 Ratio
What is the difference between shape and form? Shape is the silhouette of an object when form is the outline of a three dimensional items.
What are the five types of balance? Formal(Symmetrical), Informal(Asymmetrical), Vertical, Horizontal, Radial
What does unity or harmony mean? All elements and principles of design work together to create harmony
What are the two things texture involves? How the surface feels and how it appears to feel
What are the four types of line? Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal, Curved
What is proportion? How the design is visually divided
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? Asymmetrical
What is symmetrical balance? Example? When both parts are identical.(ex. Insects)
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? Focal point the design. aka Focus Point
What happens when you use a continuous line? Your eye continuously follows the line
What is another name for symmetrical balance? Formal Balance
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? Informal Balance
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation is when a design changes by one degree(x. color or size) Radiation is when your eye is drawn to the center outside
