unique features of plant cells

| cell wall | a rigid layer that lies outside the cell's plasma membrane. |
| central vacuole | a large, fluid-filled organelle that stores not only water but also enzymes, metabolic waste, and other materials |
| plastid | organelle that, like mitocondria, are surrounded by a double membrane and contain their own DNA |
| chloroplast | uses light energy to make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water |
| thylakoid | flattened membrane sacs |
| chlorophyll | green pigment- the main molecule that absorbs light and captures light energy for the cell. they can be found not only in plant cells but also in a wide variety of eukaryotic algae such as seaweed |
