| Cone | Where x-rays pass from the tube head toward the patient by open cylinders. |
| Digital Imaging | Imaging systems that allow for 2D and 3D images for diagnosis and treatment of dental conditions. |
| Panoramic Radiography | X-ray machine capable of exposing entire dentition on a single image. |
| Postion Indicating Device | PID. A device to help guide the x-ray during radiographs; reduces patient risk to radiation exposure. |
| Radiograph | An image produced by x-rays or similar radiation for medical exams. |
| Radiology | The study of x-rays used to produce radiographic images. |
| Roentgen Ray | First term used for the x-ray because it was founded by Wilhelm Roentgen. |
| Sensor | Replaced film as the image receptor. |
| Tomography | An image of a selected area of tissues to help dentists diagnosis patients. |
| X-rays | The "unknown" image produced by rays passing through material. |
