Chapter 3.1 Vocabulary

Organic Compound made primarily of carbon atoms
Functional Group cluster of atoms in most organic compounds
Monomer smaller, simpler molecules in which many carbon compounds are built up from
Polymer a molecule that consists of repeated, linked units
Macromolecule large polymers
Condensation Reaction a chemical reaction in which monomers link to form polymers
Hydrolysis in this reaction, water is used to break down a polymer
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) a compound that stores a lot of energy in their overall structure for life processes
