QuestionAnswer
scientific method science is characterized by an organized approach, to learn how the natural world works
observation the act of perceiving a natural occurrence that causes someone to pose a question
hypothesis is a proposed explanation or the ay a particular aspect of the natural work functions
prediction a statement that forecasts what would happen in a test situation if the hypothesis has been concluded, the data analyzed and used to draw conclusions
experiment used to test a hypothesis and its predictions
control group provides a normal standard against which the biologist can compare results of the experimental group
experimental group identical to the control group except for one factor, the independent variable
independent variable the one thing changed in an experiment
dependent variable this is the outcome of the independent variable, or what is affected by the independent variable
theory when a set of related hypotheses is confirmed to be true many times, and it can be explained with a great amount of data
peer review scientists who are experts in a field anonymously read and critique that research paper
