Formal communication network Ideas in an organization flows along the lines of command.
Upward flow on information in formal network communication flows from employees to executives
Horizontal flow of information in formal network Information flow from employees to executives
Downward flow of communication in formal network information flow from executives to employees
Informal communication network All communication that occurs outside the formal network.
Grapevine or Rumor mill Informal communication is sometimes referred to as grapevine or rumor mill.
Interpersonal communication Communication between two people or one-on-one communication
Group communication Communication between small number of people but more than two people.
Public communication Communication for intended audience.
Mass communication Communication to anyone who can access it.
Noise and Distractions Barrier to communication: External distractions like poor acoustics and internal distractions consist of thoughts and emotions.

What are few non-verbal communication methods? Greetings, Personal space, Touching, Facial expressions, Eye contact, Posture, Formality
Individualism Cultures that expects individuals to succeed by their own efforts, and it rewards individual success.
Equality All people should have an opportunity to pursue whatever dreams and goals he/she may have in life.
Monochromatic time People value time and everything has its own specific time
Polychromatic time Time is viewed as a continuum with many things happening at the same time. Schedules are never important.
What are written communication channels in organizations? Text message, Email, Memo, Letter
When to use IM? Informal use among peers at similar levels; fast inexpensive connection with colleagues over a small issue/limited amount of information
When to use email in organizations? you need to communicate but time is not the most important consideration. You need to send attachments (provided their file size is not too big)
When to use Memo? You need to communicate a general message within an organization?
When to use a letter? You need to inform, persuade, deliver, bad news or negative message, and document the communication.
What are few general purposes for speaking in Public? Speech to inform, speech to demonstrate, speech to persuade, speech to entertain, ceremonial speech.
