Evolution a process by which species have changed overtime
Extinction occurs when ALL members of a species die out
Fossil record layers of rock that show how species have changed over geologic time. The oldest specimens are farthest down
Genetic Variation normal differences found among members of a species. Everyone’s DNA is different.
Mutation a change in the DNA that may alter the protein that is eventually made
Natural selection/Survival of the Fittest organisms with beneficial differences in their DNA survive better, reproduce better and pass their genes on to future generations
Overproduction(Overpopulation) occurs when a species’ population grows larger than its carrying capacity.
Competition occurs when there’s not enough resources so species have to fight for food and shelter
Theory an explanation that has many experiments and data to back it up
