Characteristics of Living Things

Diversity of Life Refers to the large variety of living organisms present on Earth.
Life Describes an organic-based object that possesses the characteristics of metabolism and continuity of life.
Metabolism Is the sum of all the chemical reactions that occur in an organism.
Continuity of life Describes how cells arise from cells of the same type and organisms arise from other organisms of the same type.
Biological organisation Refers to the different levels of complexity in an organism.
Nutrition Is the way in which living organisms obtain and use food.
Excretion Is the getting rid of the waste products of metabolism.
Diffusion Is the movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration.
Response Is the way in which living organisms react to their environment.
Reproduction Is the way in which new offspring are produced from their parent(s).
