Bio

QuestionAnswer
Cell cycle The life cycle of a cell. This includes both interphase and mitosis/cytokinesis. Interphase is broken into G1, S and G2 phases.
Sister Chromatids Identical copies of a chromosome. One goes to each daughter cell during cell division.
Cytokinesis Division of the cell's cytoplasm to produce two daughters
Mitosis Division of the nucleus in a eukaryote
Centromere Region that joins the two sister chromatids before their separation
Kinetochore Region on chromatid to which the spindle microtubule attaches
Spindle Network of microtubules that extend from the poles of the dividing chromatids apart during anaphase
Contractile ring this ring (made of the protein actin - one component of the cytoskeleton) forms around the midline of an animal cell following mitosis. The ring contracts, pinching the cell's membrane inward, thus initiating cytokinesis
