|---|---|
| Cell cycle | The life cycle of a cell. This includes both interphase and mitosis/cytokinesis. Interphase is broken into G1, S and G2 phases. |
| Sister Chromatids | Identical copies of a chromosome. One goes to each daughter cell during cell division. |
| Cytokinesis | Division of the cell's cytoplasm to produce two daughters |
| Mitosis | Division of the nucleus in a eukaryote |
| Centromere | Region that joins the two sister chromatids before their separation |
| Kinetochore | Region on chromatid to which the spindle microtubule attaches |
| Spindle | Network of microtubules that extend from the poles of the dividing chromatids apart during anaphase |
| Contractile ring | this ring (made of the protein actin - one component of the cytoskeleton) forms around the midline of an animal cell following mitosis. The ring contracts, pinching the cell's membrane inward, thus initiating cytokinesis |
| Clevage furrow |
