ECE3-01 Careers, Employability, Professionalism

TermDefinition
Professional Dress/Appearance Wearing appropriate clothing for the environment. Typically conservative, neutral and well fitting.
Professional Greeting Saying "hello" and your name slowly, a firm handshake, making eye contact and smile.
Professional Communication using language, written, electronic and other methods to appropriately communicate with adults, businesses, or potential employers
Professional Behavior Behaving in a respectful, appropriate manner depending on the environment.
Digital Citizenship How you contribute to blogs, social media or other internet based sites.
Professional Documents (Resume, Reference Sheet, etc.) Paperwork created to assist in finding a job or being admitted to a college or other exclusive oppotunity
Resume' A one page document that details education, job experience, skills, volunteer experience and other information in chronological order. NO errors.
Reference Sheet A collection of contact information for at least 3 unrelated adults who would be willing to help an applicant get a job
Cover Letter A letter of explanation sent along with a resume to explain why the resume was sent or dropped off.
Thank you letter Letter written to an interviewer to thank them and reiterate interest in a job applied for
Job Application A paper or electronic formatted document used by a business to collect information about prospective employees
Recommendation Letter A letter written by an unrelated adult to help a person get a job or be selected for a priviledge
Eye Contact Looking at another person in the eyes, implies honesty and sincerity
Posture The shape of shoulders and back as you sit, walk, move, etc. Body Language
Inflection The tone and articulation of communicating verbally
Confidence A feeling of assurance in yourself or your ability
Networking leveraging family, friends and acquaintances to aid in finding or getting a job
Annual Salary Hourly rate of pay X 2000 hours
