| Why does the left side of the heart have a thicker wall than the right side? | That is the side of the heart that pumps blood to the entire body. |

| Why do veins have valves? | To stop the back flow of blood. |
| What is your pulse? | The feeling of your heart beating. |
| What is the average pulse rate for an adult? | 70 beats per minute. |
| What effect does exercise on the pulse rate? | Your pulse increases. |
| Why does exercise have this effect? | Your body needs more oxygen and the heart has to pump faster to keep up. |
| Why does your breathing rate increase when your heart rate increases? | Oxygen is taken in through your lungs and you have to breath faster to get more oxygen. |
