Stabilizing Selection most common form of natural selection in which organisms with extreme expressions of a trait are removed. Can be expressed on a graph.
Directional Selection Shift of population toward an extreme version of a beneficial trait. Can be expressed on a graph.
Founder Effect Occurs when a new colony is started by a few members of the original population.
Bottleneck Effect process in which a large population declines in number, then rebounds.
Allele Frequency Proportion of different alleles of a particular gene in a given population.
Gene pool the set of all genes, or genetic information, in any population, usually of a particular species.
Disruptive Selection Process by which individuals with average traits are removed, creating two populations with extreme traits. Can be expressed on a graph.
Gene Flow the transfer of alleles or genes from one population to another.
Mutation permanent change in a cell's DNA, ranging from changes in a single base pair to deletions of large sections of chromosomes.
