TermDefinition
What is an example of Gene Flow? Immigration changes a gene pool.
What is an example of genetic drift? Certain organisms dying by chance, which changes the gene pool.
What are the five factors that cause populations to evolve? Genetic Drift, Gene Flow, Mutation, Sexual Selection, Natural Selection.
What is an example of Mutation? A new allele randomly appears among a certain species.
What is an example of sexual selection? A peacock's feathers are more appealing to females so it has a higher chance to reproduce.
Why aren't mutations in non-reproductive cells a source of genetic variation? Non-reproductive cells have nothing to do with reproduction so the mutation will not be passed down to offspring.
What are two main sources of genetic variation in a population’s gene pool? mutations and gene reformation
What are the three types of natural selection? directional selection, stabilizing selection, or disruptive selection.
what is a gene pool? variation of genes in a population
What is gene flow, and how does it relate to what is happening to this population? A gene flow is the transfer of alleles or genes from one population to another.
If a drought happened in a population, would the frequency increase or decrease? The frequency would decrease.
If a population kept on reproducing offspring, would the frequency increase or decrease? The frequency would increase.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
