Traits

QuestionAnswer
Carrier An individual who has one allele for a disease but is not affected by it
Polygenic Inheritance Multiple genes that occur when a group of gene pairs act together to produce a single trait
Phenotype Physical traits that show as a result of a particular genotype; traits that are expressed
Heterozygous Organism with two alleles for a trait that are different
Homozygous Organism with two alleles for a trait that are the same or identical
Genotype Genetic makeup of an organism; all of the possible alleles within the organism
Recessive Form of a trait that appears least often in offspring; symbolized by lower case letter
Dominant Form of a trait that appears to mask another form of the same trait; symbolized by a capital letter
Genetics Study of heredity or how alleles affect generations of offspring
Alleles A gene form for each variation of a trait of an organism
